Writing from Monticello, Albemarle County, Va., Jefferson leaves Poplar Forest to his grandson Francis Eppes and names his grandson Thomas Jefferson Randolph sole executor. The following are his beneficiaries: Francis Eppes, Thomas Mann Randolph, Thomas Jefferson Randolph, Nicholas P. Trist, Alexander Garrett, Martha Jefferson Randolph, Joseph Coolidge, James Madison, the Randolph family, the Eppes family, and the University of Virginia, to which Jefferson leaves his library. He recommends to his daughter the care of her aunt Anna Scott Marks. Jefferson also gives freedom, resources, and "last, solemn, and dutiful thanks" to the following servants: Burwell, John Hemings, Joe Fosset, Madison Hemings, and Eston Hemings.
